Carlsbad, CA - As families, trainees and staff will tell you, there's never a dull moment at Beacons! Read on for some highlights:
Explorer (a 2-year/four 5-month session vocational training program that launched in April 2022), has been working hard on vocational training, employment development and has found competitive integrated employment for close to 60% of its trainees!
PathFinder, which offers a variety of 4-month vocational workshops, is in its last month of its spring session working on person-centered planning and job development. The PathFinder team also just posted the schedule for the summer exploration workshops and application, so take a look and sign-up as these fill up fast!
Self-Determination and Tailored Day divisions are currently working on expanding to reduce waitlists to meet the growing demand for these Beacons services, and fill the increase in Tailored Day hours made possible by 2022 changes to the Lanterman Act (no longer 8-hour weekly caps!)
Club has two fun social recreational events this month and is in the process of seeking SDRC vendorization to offer a wide variety of community-based and onsite "clubs" in the near future (fitness, art, photography, etc.)! Club was one of the first social recreational options in North County when Beacons opened its doors in 2018. Vendorization will take the social recreational fun to a whole new level!
In addition to our current programming activities, our hard-working Board is busy searching for a new site to not only expand (a 3rd time), but also to triple our space to make room for new program options under development (such as a creative arts option and an enriched small ratio day option). Also under exploration is a "high needs" option to build more access to fun and work!

April 15, 2023: Culture Brewing Fundraiser (Encinitas) Join Beacons at Culture to help raise funds for our programming and our 3rd expansion! Get to know some of our team members at this local favorite! Location: 619 S. Coast Highway 101, Encinitas Time: 3 - 8 pm
April 22, 2023: Transition to Adulthood Information Event (San Marcos) (hosted by the North Coastal Consortium on Special Education). Beacons will have a table along with other nonprofits with information and instructors to answer questions. April 26, 2023: San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) College & Career Night (Cardiff). Beacons and other county options will have a table with information and team reps to answer questions.
