Beacons named as a "Nonprofit of the Year" finalist, second year in a row.

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce announced the finalists for its Carlsbad Business Achievement & Distinction" Awards ("CBAD" awards), naming Beacons as a finalist for "Nonprofit of the Year" for a second year in a row. What make this even more impressive is that the nomination came from Beacons own staff.

Beacons, Inc. Nonprofit of the Year?

"We are successful because we have a winning combination of very talented staff and a wonderful hardworking Board. To be nominated from 'the inside' is an honor as well as a testament as to how our team feels about working at Beacons," said President Lucile Lynch.

Beacons, located just below the Palomar Airport, serves adults with developmental disabilities and is known locally for the high employment rates of the trainees completing the Beacons' vocational workshops. San Diego County has historically had employment rates of around 14% for those with intellectual and other disabilities. Last fall, 100% of trainees who participated in the Beacons vocational workshops (PathFinder) who were interested in work found employment through Beacons within one month of completing the workshops.

Beacons also provides social events twice a month through its "Club Beacons," where old friends and new friends can have fun on weekends. Club Beacons is normally full within an hour of sign-ups opening. During the state's shelter-in-place order, volunteers provided online activities at no charge to reduce social isolation.

Winners will be announced Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Westin in Carlsbad.
