Summer Information: Beacons offers five weeks of mini vocational workshops to help individuals aged 16+ with mild/moderate intellectual disabilities explore and develop career readiness skills! Workshops fill up quickly so apply early! (First-come first-served basis)

Onsite or Virtual?
Due to COVID-19, all 2020 workshops will be provided virtually. Participants in workshops that use materials will be provided "kits" for individuals to pick up to use at home.
Workshop size & ratio:
Max: 10 participants per workshop
Ratios: 10:3, although most may have smaller ratios depending on the workshop.
Note: Workshops with less than 5 participants may be cancelled or rescheduled).

Costs:
1. SDRC Consumers: SDRC consumers aged 18+ should contact their service coordinators to determine if they are eligible for SDRC funding, and if so, discuss:
• whether an IPP addendum is needed;
• how many workshops can be funded; and
• when a "purchase of service" can be completed.

2. Private Pay: For individuals who are paying privately, our volunteer Board works hard to fundraise throughout the year to help subsidize workshops to keep them at an affordable for those not eligible for SDRC funding. Workshops for 2020 will be $120 per workshop (or $15 per hour for supervised fun). Materials included.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
ASL (American Sign Language)
This interactive workshop will introduce basic signs and cool signals that only those who know ASL will know! Learning a new language that you can speak with your hands has never been more fun! This is a great workshop for those who need a refresher, or who want to learn a language that doesn't require reading or talking (just signing!) to communicate.
Week 1 (6/29 - 7/2)

BASIC FIRST AID & SAFETY
Learn basic first aid and interesting facts about some of the creatures and plants around you! Do you know what to do if you're bitten by a snake or how to avoid plants that can hurt you? Join us to learn basic first aid and safety measures that could help you or someone else! This workshop may ignite an interest in volunteer and other opportunities in medical and health-related work opportunities.
Week 5 (July 27 - 30)

DANCE & MOVEMENT
Get moving and have fun while learning a variety of dance styles in these easy-to-follow dance classes with Dance Instructor Miss Alyson! In this workshop for movers of all levels and abilities we will discover and develop the basics of dance and then use these skills to learn fun hip hop, jazz, tap, and ballroom routines. We will also take time to explore connected mind-body activities such as yoga, conditioning, meditation, and healthy habits, to experience the full range of what dance and movement can do to improve your life. Maybe develop skills to help you teach others!

iPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY 1 & 2
Phones can take high quality professional looking photographs if you know some of the key tricks! If you love taking photos and are ready to take your photos to the next level, join this workshop to learn how to remove backgrounds, stylize your photos, use "obstructive" tools to create unique looks, make cards and more! (8 hours total per workshop)

PAINTING
Learn to use a variety of tools and different paint styles to create finished works you can be proud of! Each artist will get a kit with canvas and paints to create at least 4 separate products per workshop, and learn some ways to possibly sell works of art. (8 hours each workshop).

BOOST YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA WITH FUN TECH TOOLS
Learn fun uses for social media, explore new apps and programs, and tips on how to avoid unsafe practices and traps.

SOFT SKILLS for THE WORKPLACE
Practice role playing, identify the do's and don'ts of workplace communication, and other skills you need to build connections at work with fellow employees, bosses and customers!

Enjoy making things with your hands? Craft classes this summer will help participants make practical and beautiful items for your room, for sale or for others! Each craft workshop session will offer something new daily to keep it fun and will explore community opportunities to sell finished works.
