Workforce Development*

Fall 2020 Workshops:

1. Customer Service Skills

2. Entrepreneurial Skills (Focus: Creative Pursuits)

Workshops include self-assessments, completion of skills inventories, progress monitoring assessments, extensive discussion of community resources, and conclude with a person-driven planning meeting using the Beacons "Lighthouse" program.  Each trainee creates and shares a detailed presentation with their planning team (family, SDRC service coordinators, and others) to help their team better understand the trainee's goals so that the team can help identify the services and training the trainee needs to increase independence, devise employment pathways, and realize personal goals.

Instructor: Cher Graham (click here for more information)

Ratio: Lead instructors are supported by instructional facilitators to keep workshops at a 10:3 ratio (approximately 4:1). Workshops are designed for those with mild/moderate disabilities who can attend and follow directions and who are interested in employment-related training.

Instructor: Cher Graham

Cher Graham is our lead instructor for the Fall Workforce Development workshops. Highly recommended by families of students she taught in a local ATP program, Ms. Graham has been with Beacons since September 2019.

Ms. Graham has served as an educator for over 10 years working with individuals with disabilities as a Special Education Coordinator, Program Specialist and teacher. Ms. Graham has a Masters in Education, a Level 1 Administrative Services Credential, a Moderate/Severe Education Specialist Credential, and a B.A. in Business Administration. As a Special Education teacher, Ms. Graham has a strong record of advocating for and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, as well as supporting their families. Formerly, she has been recognized as a “Distinguished Employee,” helped implement a Best Buddies program at the high school level, started a Kiwanis Action Club service organization for students with disabilities, and was influential in bringing a Special Olympics event to her district during her leadership as a Special Education Coordinator.

Ms. Graham will also contribute her expertise as a former restaurant owner and a current small business owner to help our trainees build workforce skills and employment pathways. As a restaurant owner and operator, she managed over 40 employees and oversaw all aspects of the business including payroll, scheduling and staff meetings. During her ownership, she employed and coordinated numerous employees with disabilities through the ROP and Workability programs, and will use those skills to help our trainees become employees. It was during her time as a business owner that she discovered her true passion of helping people with disabilities find their place, and be included, as a valuable member of the workforce and society.
